President Donald Trump’s administration has seized an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela, according to multiple US media reports.
The move comes amid a massive US military build-up in the region, including an aircraft carrier, fighter jets and tens of thousands of troops.
Officials, who spoke to Reuters on the condition of anonymity, said the US Coast Guard led the operation. They did not name the tanker and did not say specifically where the interdiction took place.
The Coast Guard referred questions to the White House, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Venezuelan government did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
